About the Firm

The Firm

The name was the first decision we made. Every choice since has answered to it.

The Name

The name, and what we owe to it.

Surekha is a name, not a brand. It is our founder’s name, and we carry it because the work carries her judgement. There is no holding company sitting between you and the lawyer; there is no team-of-experts marketing layer behind a shared inbox. When you engage us, you engage a counsel whose name is on the door, who reads the documents, who takes the calls. That is the first promise the name makes, and it is the one all the others rest on.

That choice is also a constraint. A founder-led firm cannot scale by adding rooms full of associates and calling the work the same; the named principal has to be in the room, or the name becomes decoration. We took the constraint deliberately. It shapes how big we let ourselves grow, the kind of work we accept, and the cadence at which we operate. It is the reason you will not be handed off after the pitch.

QorLex is the second word, and it is not a word at all. We coined it because no existing legal-services vocabulary captured what we wanted to stand for. Qor is short for the Quality of Results. Lex is the Latin for law, of, or relating to the law. Read together, they describe a discipline: legal work measured not by the hours it absorbs but by the outcomes it produces, and a firm willing to be judged on that measure.

That orientation shows up in small places. We will scope an engagement against the outcome you actually need, not against the hours we could plausibly bill. We will tell you when an existing arrangement makes sense and a new contract does not. We will end work that is no longer earning its keep, and we will say so. The discipline is not heroic; it is what the second half of the name commits us to.

What the two words name, between them, is a way of practising law that puts a person on the other end of your engagement and a measurable result on the other end of the work. Everything else we believe is downstream of those two.

The first decision a firm makes is what it lets itself be called. We chose two words, and built the practice to live up to them.

Our Philosophy

Three commitments, held together.

The name sets the direction. These are the working principles we hold ourselves to in carrying it.

i

The Blend

External counsel offer breadth across many businesses; in-house teams offer depth in one. You usually have to choose. We designed an engagement that gives you both, stepping inside the cadence of your business while keeping the breadth of an outside view.

ii

Founder accountability

The founder is responsible for the work, by name and by signature. In practice that means senior judgement is in the room early, the difficult calls are not delegated, and the relationship survives staff turnover because there is no staff layer between us. The name on the door is the name on the work.

iii

Outcome-driven economics

We scope work against what you need it to achieve, not against how many hours we can fill. Where it makes sense, we structure engagements around fixed fees, retainers, or milestone-linked arrangements that align our incentives with yours. The hourly bill is a tool, not the default.

Begin a Conversation

Wondering whether we are the right fit? Let’s talk.

Engagements typically begin with a single conversation about your business, the work in front of you, and whether we are the right fit. We respond within one business day.
